How To Burglar-Proof Your Front Door
Research has shown that 34 percent of burglars enter through the front door of a home. When you’re deciding on what kind of front door would best welcome guests into your home, it’s just as important to keep in mind that your front door is also meant to keep people out of your home.
There are a number of things to consider in terms of burglar-proofing your front door. Here are a few key points:
Solid Material
You want a strong door. The strongest materials to use were always steel and wood, but now local companies like MasterGrain and Therma-Tru produce high-quality, sturdy fibreglass doors that feature the most authentic woodgrain replication in the door industry.

Install a Strike Plate
Speaking of strike plates, the easiest, quickest way to make your front door more burglar-proof is to install a quality strike plate.
A strike plate (sometimes called a security plate) is a metal plate screwed into a doorjamb with a hole, or holes, in it for the bolt of the door to pass through when the door is locked.
If you’re getting a brand new door installed, ask your installer about the quality of the security plate they plan on using for your front door.
Quality Deadbolt
The last thing you want to do is buy a beautiful, solid front door and pair it with a deadbolt that can be broken with a strong kick from a would-be burglar.
Do your research on quality deadbolts and ask for a professional opinion as well.
Multipoint Door Locks
Traditionally, doors have a lock somewhere near the middle of the door. Multipoint locks will lock the door in three different locations with the turn of a single key.
Three separate locking points at the top, centre, and bottom of the door add additional locking points across the full panel of the door, rather than just the centre. This adds extra security.
